The Commitment Game!!!

"Commitment" is a very strong word in any type of relationship, but in the world of the construction business, it is the pillar on which the success of the project depends. So, let's take a look!!!

Vision: Commitment realization will help to complete the work in time with quality.

Hypothesis: A Construction Project involves various stakeholders who are tied with each other by the commitment of word but are very less realized which results in the delay of work and degradation of quality. Realization theories and examples will help us understand the realization of working on productivity.

Commitment Game:

Consider a construction project as a group game and stakeholders are the players in a team who need to achieve their goal in a specific time period and overcome the time delay, cost overrun and poor quality to entertain the audience which is the customer who has paid a handsome amount to enjoy the game i.e. project work for a very long period of time.

The commitment of each player towards the team plays a significant role. The goal can be accomplished only when each player is fully committed to his work, deadline, and quality.

General Commitments by stakeholders in a Construction Project.

Client Commitment:

On-time information delivery, maintained cash flow, regular update of information.

Contractors commitment:

Towards Workers: safety and on-time payment

Towards Client: Quality and economic work within time

Private Project Vs Public Projects:

The commitment perspectives and following of these commitments are different for private projects like in the construction of any residential or commercial building or private infrastructure wherein the no. of stakeholders present might be less as compared to the public property and also the good cash flow plays a significant role. On the other hand, public infrastructure projects for e.g. highway constructions; their pace might get affected by some outside factors like agitation by local landholders, politicians, etc..

Here is an example which will help us to understand, how the realization of commitment helps in speeding up the completion of any project:

Agra-Lucknow Expressway:

This is the best example for understanding how the commitment of a government in any infrastructure project helps in acquiring the land for construction from the landowners quickly and with great ease.

For the Agra-Lucknow expressway construction, the transactions of the land were made more lucrative and the land-owners were paid four times the regular circular rate in the ruler areas and two times in urban areas which led to the remarkable achievement of land acquisition of about 3360.6 hectares in 270 days. Last Planner System:

In the construction phase, the foreman and the superintendents who are actually working on the project with the help of the Last Planner System technique from the Lean Management System are more committed to their work which increases their productivity.

Conclusion: If all team members realize their role and are committed to their work, they are sure to win the game of construction project and it's management. For this realization to happen big room meetings need to be planned which will give better aspects of commitment within the stakeholders.
